Patriot Front Marches in Washington During US 250th Independence Celebrations
Members of the white supremacist group Patriot Front marched through the streets of Washington, D.C., during celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.
A large group of men, many wearing white balaclavas, sunglasses, and caps featuring the group’s logo, were seen carrying American flags while marching in formation.
Patriot Front was established in 2017 following the deadly Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the group’s ideology promotes the creation of a white ethnostate in the United States, and it is classified as a white supremacist hate group.
This year’s anniversary celebrations have also attracted various political and ideological groups seeking to promote their own views of American identity. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has faced criticism from Democrats, who accuse him of using the historic occasion to advance his political agenda.
During a speech at Mount Rushmore, Trump warned of what he described as a “communist menace” and claimed that American identity is facing “a renewed attack.”
