ISLAMABAD: In a move providing direct financial relief to the public, the Government of Pakistan has officially announced a reduction in the prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) for the upcoming week. The decision, implemented by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division, aims to pass on the impact of downward trends in the global oil market straight to domestic consumers, offering minor economic breathing room amidst ongoing inflationary pressures.

According to the official notification, the ex-depot rate of petrol has been cut by Rs 1.97 per litre, bringing the new retail price down to Rs 297.53 per litre from the previous Rs 299.50. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel—a critical fuel for the country’s commercial transport and agricultural logistics sectors—has also been slashed by Rs 1.97 per litre. The updated price for high-speed diesel stands at Rs 309.50 per litre, down from its earlier mark of Rs 311.47 per litre.

The price adjustments follow a broader stabilization trend in global crude oil markets as international supply paths ease. Energy ministry sources noted that the initial scope for the relief package was much larger based on international averages; however, the government balanced the final retail rates by managing structural adjustments within the petroleum and climate support levies. The new pricing structure takes effect immediately across all major cities and distribution channels nationwide.
