DALLAS: Egypt secured a historic milestone at the FIFA World Cup 2026 by winning their first-ever knockout round match, defeating Australia 4-2 in a dramatic penalty shootout following a tense 1-1 draw after extra time. Played in front of a massive crowd of 70,000 at the Dallas Stadium in Texas, the Pharaohs held their nerve from the spot to eliminate the Socceroos and book a monumental spot in the Round of 16.
The African side drew first blood early in the 13th minute when midfielder Emam Ashour timed his run perfectly to plant a firm header past Australian goalkeeper Patrick Beach, capitalising on a well-recycled cross from Karim Hafez.
