The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Thursday that a technical fault in the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable system has disrupted internet services across the country. According to the telecom regulator, the infrastructure failure is causing intermittent connectivity issues and a noticeable degradation in service quality for internet users nationwide. Transworld Associates (TWA) is currently collaborating with the international SMW5 Consortium to pinpoint the root cause of the breakdown and establish an Estimated Time of Restoration (ETTR).

To mitigate the impact of the disruption and ensure service continuity, the PTA has initiated the rerouting of countrywide web traffic through alternative international links. The regulatory body emphasized that it is maintaining close coordination with all technical stakeholders to accelerate repair operations. While the fault has left many users experiencing slowed download speeds and unstable connections, the authority assured the public that traffic management strategies are fully underway to stabilize network performance as quickly as possible.
