Negotiators from the United States and Iran have achieved “positive progress” during indirect technical talks held in Doha, Qatar. According to Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesman Majed Al Ansari, mediators from Qatar and Pakistan concluded separate meetings with both delegations, focusing heavily on issues related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and building upon the previous Lake Lucerne Summit outcomes. The discussions primarily centered on securing commercial shipping and maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, alongside negotiating financial incentives for Tehran—two core pillars established under the initial diplomatic framework signed in June.

The momentum of the talks has been acknowledged by Washington, with President Donald Trump confirming to reporters that the meetings in Qatar went well and noting that discussions surrounding regional stabilization and the denuclearization of Iran are moving along productively. Due to the passing of the Iranian Supreme Leader, both parties have agreed to a temporary pause, with the next round of diplomatic discussions slated to be scheduled immediately following the conclusion of the formal funeral processions in Iran.
