LOS ANGELES: Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about two of the most notable relationships of her past, reflecting on her former romances with Brad Pitt and Chris Martin and how both relationships shaped different chapters of her life.
During a September 8 appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast hosted by Benny Blanco and Lil Dicky, Paltrow discussed her early relationship with Pitt as well as the journey she and Martin took to remain a family after their separation.
Gwyneth Paltrow recalls Brad Pitt romance
Paltrow remembered being deeply disappointed when her engagement to Brad Pitt ended in 1997.
The pair began dating in 1994 and became engaged two years later. Paltrow said she was 22 at the time while Pitt was 31, recalling how strikingly handsome he was and how intense the relationship became under public scrutiny.
For Gwyneth Paltrow, the relationship also coincided with her growing fame.
She explained that becoming famous herself while simultaneously being known as Pitt’s girlfriend was an overwhelming experience. The intense media attention made the relationship one of the most closely followed celebrity romances of the 1990s.
Despite their eventual breakup, Paltrow said she continues to have affection for Pitt.
She described the Fight Club star as a “great guy” and said she still loves him and considers him a friend.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin remain a family
Paltrow also reflected on her relationship with Chris Martin, the Coldplay frontman and father of her two children.
The former couple separated in 2014 and share daughter Apple Martin, 22, and son Moses, 20.
Rather than focusing only on their separation, Paltrow discussed how she and Martin learned to maintain a strong family relationship despite no longer being romantically involved.
She recalled one particularly difficult brunch with their children when tensions threatened to escalate.
Instead of allowing the situation to fall apart, Paltrow and Martin hugged, fist-bumped and managed to work through the difficult moment.
The experience reinforced their commitment to remaining a family even though they were no longer a couple.
Paltrow’s life after divorce
Gwyneth Paltrow has since built a new chapter of her personal life with television producer Brad Falchuk.
The couple married in 2018, several years after Paltrow and Martin separated.
Paltrow’s comments about Pitt and Martin offer a glimpse into how she has maintained relationships with important people from her past while moving forward with her own life.
Her reflections also highlight how former partners can remain connected through friendship, family and shared experiences long after romantic relationships have ended.
