ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence Day with national enthusiasm as the country’s top political leadership called for political stability, institutional reforms, economic progress and regional peace.
The nation is observing August 14 with traditional zeal and fervour, with special prayers held at mosques across the country for peace, solidarity, prosperity and the continued progress of Pakistan. (The News Pakistan)
The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes at provincial headquarters, marking the national occasion with ceremonial honours. Flag-hoisting ceremonies and patriotic activities were also held in cities and towns across the country.
A special Change of Guard ceremony was held at the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi, paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. (The Express Tribune)
President Zardari pays tribute to Pakistan Movement
In his Independence Day message, President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the leaders and workers of the Pakistan Movement and millions of people who sacrificed their homes, security and livelihoods for the creation of Pakistan.
Zardari described independence not only as a historic achievement but also as a responsibility for every generation to carry forward. He stressed the importance of strengthening the country’s economy, empowering young people and advancing democratic and institutional reforms. (Business Recorder)
The president also highlighted the importance of peace and stability in the region and around the world, saying Pakistan would continue supporting efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting cooperation.
Leadership calls for unity and reforms
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also urged political forces and citizens to work together for national unity, economic development and the protection of Pakistan’s national interests.
