US Central Command says all Iranian ballistic missiles were intercepted after an attempted surprise attack on American forces, while Washington and Tehran continue indirect diplomatic contacts.

The United States has said it successfully intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles launched toward American military forces in the Middle East, marking another sharp escalation in regional tensions despite ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched several ballistic missiles in what it described as an attempted surprise attack on US military installations in the region. The American military stated that all incoming missiles were intercepted before they could reach their intended targets.

“Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on US forces based in the Middle East. All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted,” CENTCOM said in an official statement.

Reports of Attack on US Base

Earlier, Axios reported, citing a US official, that Iran had fired ballistic missiles toward a US military base in Jordan. The report said air defense systems intercepted the missiles before they reached the installation.

While US officials have not publicly confirmed the exact target, the Pentagon said American forces remained fully prepared to defend personnel and military assets across the region.

No casualties or damage have been reported following the missile interceptions.

Trump Warns Iran Despite Ongoing Talks

The missile incident comes just days after US President Donald Trump unexpectedly halted a two-week American bombing campaign against Iran, saying negotiations offered a potential path toward reducing tensions.

Speaking earlier this week, Trump said Washington was holding “good talks” with Tehran but warned that military operations could resume if diplomacy failed.

“We’re having good talks. I think there’s a good chance something positive can happen. If it doesn’t, we’ll go back to doing what we were doing,” Trump said.

However, Iranian officials have rejected claims that Tehran is seeking renewed negotiations with Washington.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has insisted that reports suggesting the country requested direct talks are “fabricated” and maintained that communication is taking place only through international mediators.

US and Saudi Forces Launch Joint Strikes

Following the missile incident, the US military announced that American and Saudi Arabian armed forces carried out coordinated airstrikes against Iran-backed militant groups operating in eastern Iraq.

According to CENTCOM, the targeted sites were being used to coordinate attacks against American military personnel and Saudi Arabia’s critical energy infrastructure.

US officials said fighter aircraft from both countries struck logistics centers, weapons depots, and operational facilities linked to the armed groups.

Washington accused Tehran of directing proxy forces to attack both US troops and Saudi oil installations.

“The United States urges Iran and its proxy groups to immediately cease these attacks to avoid further US military response,” CENTCOM said.

Saudi Arabia Supports Joint Operation

Saudi Arabia confirmed its participation in the military operation, saying the strikes were conducted in cooperation with US Central Command after intelligence indicated that Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq were preparing attacks on Saudi petroleum facilities.

Saudi defense officials said the operation was aimed at protecting regional security and preventing further attacks on critical energy infrastructure.
