KARACHI: A powerful dust storm accompanied by strong winds swept across Karachi on Saturday night, reducing visibility, disrupting traffic, and affecting normal activities in several parts of the city, while light to moderate rainfall continued for a second consecutive day.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain-bearing clouds moving from the Kirthar Range reached Karachi, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to various neighborhoods. The weather department had also warned that some areas could receive heavy rainfall for a short duration.
Strong Winds and Rain Affect Multiple Areas
The dust storm was followed by light to moderate rain in several localities, including Gulshan-e-Maymar and Gadap, as unstable weather conditions persisted across the metropolis.
The latest spell comes a day after widespread rainfall was recorded in different parts of Karachi, where intermittent showers brought temporary relief from hot and humid weather but also caused traffic disruptions.
Heavy Rainfall Recorded Across Karachi
On Friday, heavy rain lashed Shahrah-e-Faisal and surrounding areas, while Sohrab Goth experienced intense downpours.
Other areas receiving rainfall included:
- Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 6
- North Nazimabad
- Gulshan-e-Maymar
- II Chundrigar Road and nearby commercial districts, where light drizzle was reported

According to the PMD, Surjani Town recorded the highest rainfall during the latest spell with 5.5 millimeters.
Other rainfall measurements included:
- Gulshan-e-Hadeed: 5 mm
- Keamari: 4 mm
- Nazimabad: 3.2 mm
- PAF Masroor: 3 mm
- Gulshan-e-Maymar: 2.6 mm
- North Karachi: 1 mm
More Rain Expected in Karachi
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast additional rain and thunderstorms in Karachi over the weekend as the current weather system continues to influence Sindh.
Officials have advised residents to remain cautious during periods of strong winds and heavy rainfall, as temporary urban flooding, reduced visibility, and traffic congestion may occur in low-lying areas.
The PMD continues to monitor the evolving weather situation and has urged the public to stay updated through official forecasts and weather advisories.
