SKARDU: The body of Pakistani climber Dr Asma Mushtaq has been safely brought to the Spantik Peak Base Camp by the Arandu Volunteer Rescue Team, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said.
In a post on X, Tarar said the body would soon be airlifted from Spantik Base Camp to Skardu before being transported to Lahore, subject to the availability of a suitable flight.
The recovery operation followed a prolonged and challenging mission carried out in difficult weather and high-altitude conditions.

The Dr Asma Mushtaq body recovery operation was completed by the Arandu Volunteer Rescue Team after days of difficult efforts in the mountainous terrain.
Dr Asma died on August 20 after suffering a serious high-altitude medical emergency while descending from Spantik Mountain, which rises to 7,027 metres in Pakistan’s Karakoram range.
The recovery mission was complicated by harsh weather conditions and the extreme altitude, making the transportation of her body particularly challenging for rescuers.
Information Minister Ataullah Tarar confirmed that the body had now reached the base camp, marking an important step toward bringing the climber home.
Dr Asma Mushtaq Body to Be Airlifted to Skardu
According to Tarar, the Dr Asma Mushtaq body will be airlifted from Spantik Base Camp to Skardu as soon as arrangements can be made.
From Skardu, the body is expected to be transported to Lahore, where it will be handed over to her family, provided a suitable flight is available.
The minister said further updates regarding the transportation arrangements would be shared as the process progresses.
The successful recovery reflects the efforts of the volunteer rescuers who worked in one of the most demanding environments in the region.

The recovery of Dr Asma Mushtaq body came after a prolonged rescue mission that was made particularly difficult by severe weather and high-altitude conditions.
Spantik Mountain, also known as Golden Peak, is among Pakistan’s prominent high-altitude climbing destinations and is located in the Karakoram range.
Dr Asma had been descending from the 7,027-metre peak when she experienced a serious medical emergency. She died on August 20.
The completion of the recovery operation has brought the difficult mission closer to its conclusion, with the next stage involving the transfer of her body to Skardu and ultimately Lahore.
Authorities are expected to provide further information about the airlift and onward transportation once suitable arrangements are confirmed.
