The proposed agreement could support one of the world’s largest AI infrastructure projects as OpenAI expands its computing capacity.

Nvidia is reportedly in discussions with OpenAI to provide funding guarantees for a massive artificial intelligence data center project in Ohio, a move that could significantly strengthen the infrastructure powering future AI technologies.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the proposed agreement is linked to a $250 billion project being developed by SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank, in Piketon, Ohio, approximately 68 miles south of Columbus.

If finalized, the deal would help OpenAI secure a long-term lease for the planned 10-gigawatt AI data center, which is expected to become one of the largest computing facilities dedicated to artificial intelligence. Nvidia’s involvement would provide financial backing that could help accelerate construction and ensure the project’s long-term viability.

The Ohio facility is expected to deliver enormous computing power needed to train and operate increasingly sophisticated AI models, including future generations of ChatGPT and other advanced artificial intelligence systems. As demand for AI computing continues to surge worldwide, technology companies are investing heavily in hyperscale data centers equipped with high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs) and specialized AI hardware.

The reported negotiations also highlight the deepening partnership between Nvidia and OpenAI. Nvidia’s AI chips have become the industry standard for training large language models, making the company a critical supplier for many leading AI developers.

Neither Nvidia, OpenAI, SoftBank, nor SB Energy has officially commented on the reported discussions. If the agreement proceeds, it would represent one of the largest investments in AI infrastructure to date and further reinforce the United States’ position as a global hub for artificial intelligence development.
